Nick Ashford of the Motown duo Ashford & Simpson died in a New York hospital yesterday at the age of 70. Nick Ashford wrote several hit songs with his partner and later wife Valerie Simpson, including “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, and “Your All I Need to Get By” and several others that were picked up and recorded by big recording stars like Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross. Nick Ashford’s contributions to the songwriting and production of huge R&B hits has placed him in the pantheon of Motown legends. Ashford died of throat cancer.

I am sadden to hear the news of Nick Ashford passing. He was an incredible man, and artist. He had swag when no one else knew what it was. My prayers are with his wife (Valarie), and his family. The world has lost a great man. Thank God, he will be remembered through his music.
