The Preservation Jazz Hall Band embodies the very history of music in the great tradition of New Orleans jazz. Since the ’60s the evolving cast of musicians consistently perform at Preservation Hall in the French Quarter and tour at least 150 days out of the year to spread their voice. In the past 50-some-odd years the Preservation Jazz Hall Band namesake has released upwards of 30 albums, but today we are excited to bring you the first album of strictly new original compositions from the band entitled That’s It!
The 11-track album was produced by Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) and Ben Jaffe (son of Allan and Sandra Jaffe who founded Preservation Hall). The group was joined in its songwriting duties by Paul Williams famous for penning “The Rainbow Connection,” as well as Chris Stapleton and Dan Wilson who worked on Adele’s 21.”This is the music we want to play today,” explains Jaffe. “We’ll continue to do the old standards, along with new material that allows us to be creative and relevant. With this album, I wanted to do something that would challenge us and make us proud.” In honor of the release, the group was on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Show as the musical guest and members of the group will be sitting in with the legendary Roots crew tonight, so be sure to tune in for that!
Without further ado, here is the Preservation Jazz Hall Band’s That’s It!:
