That’s it. There must be something in Australia’s water…that or Aussies have been hoarding their beautiful music scene, letting it percolate until just right. Entering our line of site the day after we watched fellow Melbournians Hiatus Kaiyote play The Knitting Factory, 23-year-old Oscar Key Sung has our ears. Though he’s been rising in the Australian music scene since 2009, Sung has begun to break international ground thanks to high profile support slots for St. Vincent, Four Tet, Metronomy, and Gotye, along with his recent work alongside Ghostpoet, and MeLo-X.
Though he’s an artist that’s totally different from our jazz and jazz-influenced extended family, he’s definitely someone we wanted to share with you all. Check out his stunning new video for the beautifully composed “It’s Coming,” and just-released beat tape “<3 Symbols” (our favorite track is “ARCHitexture”) to temper your ears until his debut solo release hits shelves in early 2014.
