It’s been a minute since the venerable drummer, beat-maker, and Detroit-bred Karriem Riggins has graced New York’s stages, and we’ve resorted to tempering our patience with last year’s Alone Together  release and this year’s video performances. Luckily for us, he’s in town these next two weeks, and will be premiering his Detroit party Juke Joint here in NYC. Expect a heavy music lesson while on the dance floor as he spins rare classics from Detroit and New York bands next to new underground joints you haven’t heard yet (and just maybe, with crossed fingers we’ll catch some of the never-before-heard songs in his collection, beats from his late friend, the great J Dilla).

Riggins’ music knowledge runs deep and is constantly expanded by his work as a jazz drummer (with heavies like the late Mulgrew Miller) and as a producer (for the likes of Erykah Badu and Common), a dual personality that his taken him across the world, but rests on the thick music roots of Detroit. Come vibe out with us at Sutra this weekend and next. Bring and open mind and a certainty for a great evening. See you Friday, October 4th, and Friday, October 11th!
Free before midnight. Doors at 9pm.
Presented in Association with Revive Music
