The list of artists he’s worked with reads like a who’s-who of all things dope. On “Golden Age,” Felder brings sounds inspired by classic rock, blues, soul, and hip hop that trim the fat right off cliches and altogether avoid the predictable. There is a message, a question, and a conversation with intriguing samples of speeches from the likes of Barbara JordanElie WieselMario CuomoLou GehrigMalcom X, and even Richard Nixon. Felder doesn’t give us all the answers, but he sure asks some good questions. With 10 impressive original compositions and a well-thought-out, nuanced presentation of sound, this album puts music first.
