Theo Crocker is set to release an exciting new project produced by multi-Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Dee Dee Bridgewater on DDBprods and Okeh/Sony Records. Bridgewater has been a strong supporter of Crocker, lending insight, vocals for three tracks on Afro Physicist, and having him as a regular member of her touring band.

Afro Physicist will be released in the U.S. on May 20, 2014 and internationally on April 22nd. This album was developed in Shangai while Crocker was living there for the last seven years. He seems to have embraced the freedom of Shanghai’s jazz scene. Removed from rigid definitions of “jazz” allowed for an open approach and receptiveness to influences ranging from hip hop to Afrobeat to R&B and even takes on classic Michael Jackson tunes like “I Can’t Help It” nearly as a standard. Speaking of his intent to also schedule shows surrounding the release in Shanghai, Crocker notes, “It would be strange for me to release a record and not do anything in Shanghai about it. I developed it all in Shanghai.”
