For those watching for Taylor McFerrin’s long anticipated solo debut, Early Riser, the wait is almost over! The producer/musician has blessed us by leaking the album’s first single, “The Antidote,” featuring Hiatus Kaiyote’s Nai Palm, via Brainfeeder Records. What’s more, he reveals that the LP’s release date will be June 3rd.

McFerrin, who yours truly once described as a “Darth Vader of rhythm,” has been at the forefront of fusing soul with science. Inheriting the vocal attributes of his Grammy-winning father, Bobby McFerrin, Taylor has enhanced his gift not only as a preeminent beat boxer but also an imaginative producer and keyboardist. His live shows are clinics of stream-of-consciousness composition that’s unparalleled in any genre today.

His debut album has been in the works since he dropped the three song teaser in 2011, but it’s been simmering ever since…until now. After remixing tracks with Jose James and an unforgettable collaboration with Robert Glasper and Derrick Hodge on web series 1 Mic 1 Take, McFerrin is finally ready to step out front and center. With “The Antidote,” he builds a floating, electronic mysticism that quietly throbs underneath the scatter-shock vocal flow Nai Palm.
