Join Melanie Charles and Rat Habitat for their EP listening party this Friday, April 25th at Lower East Side’s Rockwood Music Hall.

Rat Habitat is the product of Melanie Charles and Jordan Peters. As Charles explains, Rat Habitat is a mixture of soul, hip-hop, indie rock, electronica, and as Charles says, “maybe a little bit of jazz here and there.” While Rat Habitat might circle throughout many different palettes and grooves, it wouldn’t be a Melanie Charles project if it weren’t also tinged with some Haitian influences.

Charles has performed alongside notable artists like Gregory Porter, José James, Jesse Fischer, and Hatian jazz and roots saxophonist Buyu Ambroise. The New York native attended LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts as a flute major, then went on to The New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music to further her education.

Joining Charles and Peters this Friday at 7 p.m. on the Rockwood stage are Jesse Fischer (keys), Nicholas Semrad (keys), David Frazier Jr. (drums), as well as special guest Phase One. Peep the video below to find out more about Rat Habitat. For more info for this Friday’s event, click here.
