Yuki “BIGYUKI” Hirano needs no formal introduction. BIGYUKI plays the keys as if he’s personally blessed by the music gods and he continues to leave the audience wanting more from his seductive touch. So, if you’re wondering what to do with yourself on a Saturday night, head out to the Blue Note Jazz Club on June 7th, at 12:30 a.m. and prepare to find yourself transported to the promised lands while listening to Big Yuki’s signature flavors.

Lakecia Benjamin is a beast – metaphorically speaking of course – and this transformation is complete with the first note on her saxophone. This native New Yorker has many notable credits to her name, such as Stevie Wonder, The Roots, and Alicia Keys— and she still leaves audiences with their mouths wide open after every performance, and with the applause ringing long after the show is over. You have to watch it to believe it, and no better day than June 14th, at 12:30 a.m. to see this young saxophonista bring the stage alive.

Up next, on our secret – yet not so secret – late night list, is a player who just passed the 10-year mark of his professional career, but has a musical reputation that spans decades. We present you Marcus Strickland’s Twi-Life. Strickland has a covetable list of recording and performing credits including Wynton Marsalis and Dave Douglas. Strickland’s Twi-Life showcases his inception in soul music with a genre-bending group that includes artists like Jean Baylor (vocals), BIGYUKI (keys), Kyle Miles (bass), and Justin Tyson (drums). Catch them at Blue Note in the after hours on Saturday, June 21st.

We’re finishing the month strong with virtuoso pianist and live electronics manipulator, Mark de Clive-Lowe. MdCL will be using the Blue Note stage to celebrate the release of his newest album, CHURCH. We’ve had the privilege of hearing a preview of CHURCH and are still raving over his seamless transition of beat making with the flow of jazz, using his keyboard sensibilities, drum machine, and special effects. We assure you his live show on June 28 at 12:30 a.m. is going to be insane!
