Videos of Jason Moran rocking a huge papier-maché mask of the legendary Fats Waller on-stage have been surfacing online for over a year now. Similar videos of Meshell Ndegeocello flexing her vocal chords on Fats Waller standards like “The Joint Is Jumpin'” have also been floating around the internet for quite some time. The wait for Moran and Ndegeocello’s All Rise: A Joyful Elegy to Fats Waller – a project that has been in the work for three years – is now over and we are proud to present “Ain’t Misbehaving,” the first single from the forthcoming album.
Joining Moran and Ndegeocello on All Rise are Lisa E. Harris (vocals), Leron Thomas (trumpet), Josh Roseman (trombone), Steve Lehman (sax), and Charles Haynes. Moran’s Bandwagon trio members Tarus Mateen (bass) and Nasheet Waits also make appearances in the forthcoming album. Legendary super-producer Bob Power – known for his work on classic hip hop records by A Tribe Called Quest, Common, and The Roots – also got his hands involved behind the booth by recording and mixing All Rise.
