Legendary German record label MPS (Musik Produktion Schwarzwald) has released their catalog on iTunes. MPS’ catalog is home to classic records from Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Clark Terry, Monty Alexander, Count Basie, and more.
MPS will be digitally re-releasing more than 400 albums exclusively on iTunes through the rest of this year up to 2015. Almost 280 records will have their first digital release as many of them are now only available on vinyl and CD. For audiophiles who are concerned about the fidelity of releasing albums on iTunes, rest assured that each record has been has been carefully mastered to replicate what the artist and the original engineers intended.
Edel:Kultur’s Dirk Mahlstedt had this to say about their storied label coming to iTunes:
“We are proud to bring the MPS catalog to iTunes. Now we are able to make albums that have never been released digitally available to fans worldwide. In addition, iTunes’ commitment to audio quality corresponds perfectly to our release strategy: relaunch MPS with the best audio quality available in the 21st century.”
