Saxophonist Adison Evans‘ name may not be familiar to you, but there’s a good chance you’ve heard her play. A graduate of Juilliard, she quickly went to to play with such high profile artists as Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, Benny Golson and Maynard Ferguson, among others. This is leaving out the huge pop artists she has played behind, including Trisha Yearwood and Nicki Minaj. She also played extensively with Beyoncé live during her 2013 Superbowl performance, the “Mrs Carter Show World Tour” and the “On The Run” Tour with Jay-Z, and in the studio on her chart-topping record “Beyoncé” and on many of her music videos and HBO specials.

As impressive as these credits are, her kickstarter for her album Hero marks her debut jazz album and features her original compositions alongside those of her musical heroes, and the “heroes” theme runs deep through the album. Evans writes, “Growing up I looked at my mom as my very own personal superhero. Fearless, persistent, strong, patient, kind, and caring. She introduced me to playing the saxophone and music, and is the reason why I play today. My debut jazz album “Hero” is a tribute to some of the people who have helped shape me into the person/musician I am today, including my boss, Beyonce, and my all time musical idol, Stevie Wonder, my musical mentor and one of the most inspiring musicians on the scene, Steve Wilson, and my saxophone hero, Sonny Rollins.”

To give an idea of how multi-talented she is, not only is she working full time as a saxophonist, she also finds time to host her cooking show “Adi’s Jazz Kitchen,” where she features musical guests, interviews and creates recipes. Head over to Adison Evans kickstarter page to see how her passion for cooking fits in to the rewards for backers and to get a taste of what’s to come with Hero.
