With “a singular voice that taps all the cultures from which it is born” (BBC)British/Nigerian bass virtuoso and composer Michael Olatuja has been applauded by audiences worldwide for his artful amalgamation of sound and culture. Not only has he worked with artists Chaka Khan, Spike Lee, Phil Collins, Terence Blanchard, Lionel Loueke, Joe Lovano, Jose James, and many, many more, Olatuja has given his talents to Broadway for shows The Color Purple, Lion King, Motown, Wicked, and Lady Day – all highly acclaimed in both the theatre and music worlds. Now Olatuja will front band Lagos Pepper Soup for a one night performance at Rockwood Music Hall, showcasing the wide girth of music styles that he blends and bends to create his singular sound. Alongside him will be Thana Alexa (voice), Samir Zarif (saxophone), Jon Cowherd (piano/keyboards), and Obed Calvaire (drums). Sunday, July 3rd, these musicians will take their audience on a journey through the worlds of music that bring them together.
