Fresh from hitting a world tour alongside the legendary DJ Premier, trumpeter Takuya Kuroda is slated to release Zigzagger, his fifth studio album. Due for a October 7th release, Kuroda’s Concord Records debut comes on the heels of one of 2014’s most infectious albums Rising Son and picks up directly where it left off. Backed by longtime collaborators like trombonist Corey King, bassist Rashaan Carter, keyboardist Takeshi Ohbayashi, and Adam Jackson on the kit, the 10-track gem thoroughly captivates listeners from start to bottom. The proof? How about the Zigzagger‘s hard-hitting, stank-face inducing opening track “R.S.B.D.” An abbreviation for “Red Spade Black Diamond,” Kuroda’s opening track to his upcoming 2016 release sews together a blend of different idioms and transforms them into a sound that is uniquely TK.
