It should come to no surprise that jazz masters who posses the secrets to the universe are also some of the flyest looking people. On a purely functional level, it makes sense to look your best in a life where you’re constantly on stage performing for an audience. But on a deeper level, creativity and the desire to express individuality extends to every facet of life — including the clothes we wear. In a GQ Style article titled “These 10 Living Legends of Jazz Prove Nobody Can Out-Dress the OGs” writer Nick Marino introduces some our most revered and beloved heroes in a different light. Accompanied by beautifully shot photographs taken by Christian Weber, the article features Pharoah Sanders, Ron Carter, Charles Lloyd, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Roy Ayers, McCoy Tyner, and Cecil Taylor. Roy Haynes also features in the list, which isn’t a surprise considering the legendary drummer was named as one of the Best Dressed Men in America by Esquire back in 1960.
