It may be the first time you’re seeing the name, but we can assure you that you’ve heard Trevor Lawrence Jr. at some capacity. With a CV that reads the who’s who in the music scene today, Lawrence’s performance and recording credits include Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar to name a few. Lawrence recently hit the studio to work on his forthcoming debut solo record, Relationships. Due to drop on July 21 via Ropeadope, Lawrence’s upcoming album enlists the help of artists like Nicholas Payton, Kamasi Washington, Maurice Brown, Kenneth Crouch, LeAnn Rimes, and Nico Segal. Relationships also features Lawrence’s labelmate and Pollyseeds bandmate Terrace Martin.

As a preview for things to come, the good people at Ropeadope were kind enough to let us get a first listen to “Tiptoe,” a cut off Lawrence’s aforementioned debut record. Featuring Neka, “Tiptoe” acts as the perfect example of what a seasoned producer can do when given full creative control over a project.
