Saxophonist, bandleader, educator, and creator Tia Fuller sat down with The Revivalist to discuss where the music has been taking her this past year as well as where she sees it going in the new year. Check out below as she discusses her role in teaching the younger generations, her tenure as part of Beyonce’s band, and some projects in the works for 2012.
The Revivalist gives a big shout out to our girl Nikki Glaspie, who plays drums on Beyonce’s upcoming studio album entitled ‘4’. Glaspie is a Berklee alum who has played alongside everyone from Vernon Reid, Pharoahe Monch, Meshell Ndegeocello, and has been playing for Beyonce since 2006–starting in her all female band–and has since been on world-wide tours with the pop icon. Glaspie appears on “Party”, “Love on Top”, “I Care” and the bonus track on ‘4’ “Lay Up Under Me”. Congratulations Glaspie for representing the hard working musicians out here. We think you deserve a little shine!
The most rewarding thing about being in the jam band circuit is the fans – really – their love for music. Their pure, raw emotion. Whatever you are feeling coming out of your instrument, they appreciate. They love it. They never come to the show expecting to hear the same thing they heard at the last show. They’re not unhappy if you don’t play a particular song.
