World renowned pianist Marc Cary announces two shows on September 16th and 17th at Smoke with Burniss Earl Travis II on the bass, and Sameer Gupta on drums and tabla.

On Friday (3/4), Marc Cary will bring his “Indigenous People” to Le Poisson Rouge. With a talented roster of musicians behind him, Cary, a pianist renowned for melding western and eastern music, will take to the stage this time delving into the music of West Africa, Native America, and East India in an all acoustic setting.

Marc Cary & The Focus Trio recently played the Jazz Standard in New York. Here is an intimate look at their performance from the front row. This video features Burniss Travis on bass and Sameer Gupta on drums.

Now based in Brooklyn, New York, the 23-year-old Travis is back on the live music scene after a year-long hiatus, and is ready to explore a new musical territory. Certainly not one of the gabbiest, and unsure at first exactly what he could offer our session together, it turned out that he actually was flooded with ideas once we got started, as is true with most musicians when given a chance to talk about the thing that they love most.
