Last week Derrick Hodge took the stage at the Cutting Room in NYC to bring his newly released Blue Note debut, Live Today, to life for an excited audience. Joined onstage by a core band of Christian Sands and Travis Sayles on keys, fellow Experiment member Mark Colenburg on drums, and Ambrose Akinmusire on trumpet, Hodge went through a repertoire of songs featured on the album with the addition of one tribute to the late-Mulgrew Miller (featuring Sayles and Akinmusire channeling some extra intense energy) which was not on the album.
On Tuesday, August 6th world-renowned bassist and composer Derrick Hodge will be celebrating his debut album on Blue Note Records ‘Live Today’ featuring Travis Sayles (keys) , Christian Sands (keys), Mark Colenburg (drums) and Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet) at The Cutting Room presented by Revive Music.
Alicia Olatuja came to national prominence with her solo for President Obama’s most recent inauguration with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, but with Olatuja the music goes a whole lot deeper than simply that performance. Between gigs with her husband, Michael Olatuja, as the Olatuja Project and backing up artists like Chaka Khan, Somi, and Christian McBride on vocals, Olatuja has crafted a unique space for her own music which she will releasing this Spring. Be sure to check out her process behind recording the album, working with incredible musicians, and more as we discuss her music.
