In case you missed it, our friend and Grammy Award-winning trumpet player and producer Maurice “Mobetta” Brown released the single to his forthcoming record entitled Maurice vs. Mobetta which will feature special guests like Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, DJ Scratch, Consequnce, and Prodigy. The term blue note is defined as “a minor interval where a major would be expected, used especially in jazz.” Having said that, consider the following sample list to be the “blue notes” of Blue Note, so to speak. Coming off her incredible trip “home” to South Africa for the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Jean Grae will be doing her first full set in over a year premiering her ensemble at Drom on Thursday, May 24th.
