Tonight, groups Rhythm & Stealth and The Ruff Pack will take the stage at Nublu for an incredible double bill. Though both groups are very different in sound and approach to music making, they feature members that have used jazz as a touchstone to their improvisation throughout their careers. In days where the radio is saturated by the over-processed, Rhythm & Stealth and The Ruff Pack have figured out how to mess with traditionally hyper-produced genres in the live setting.
Lex Sadler is a bass player and electronic musician from Perth, Australia that has been an important member of New York’s live hip hop and experimental electronic music scenes for the 7 years. Rising out of his Nublu residency, a first-of-its-kind EDM jam session entitled Metropolis, Sadler’s created an exciting double bill on October 8th at Nublu that will feature the live band version of his own Rhythm & Stealth project in partnership with his friends, The Ruff Pack.
We caught up with bassist and producer Lex Sadler for a look into how he’s bringing his passion for electronic music into the jazz realm. Touring as Blitz the Ambassador’s bassist and planning projects with Ari Hoenig, Sadler has spread himself over a wide range of musicians and is bringing it all together with his numerous innovative projects. With the release of ‘Twenty Three Seven,’ Sadler shows us a glimpse of the future of integrating live musicians with loops and samples. Check out our interview and take a sneak peak at how the album was made in the video below.
