Thinking back to some of the most special live events we’ve presented at Revive Music, it’s hard not to recall the residency Mark de Clive-Lowe keep reading »
Dexter Story’s journey through the music industry is like few others. Seemingly living multiple lifetimes in his 48 years, this renaissance man has had careers spanning from product manager for artists like Snoop Dogg, Musiq Soulchild, & LL Cool J, to booking acts for a busy LA nightclub, being signed as a rap producer by Sony, managing Meshell Ndegeocello, and ultimately finding himself as an artist. We sat down to discuss Story’s debut solo record on Kindred Spirits entitled ‘Seasons,’ but got a lot more story than we paid for. Be sure to read Pt. 1 of our interview before delving into Pt. 2 below!
Leading up to the February 26th release of ‘Cover Art,’ we are bringing you interviews with the musicians and previews of the songs each one arranged for the record. Our last interview is with Chris Dunn, Senior A&R at Concord Records and Producer of the NEXT Collective.
The producer, musician, and artistic visionary that is Mark de Clive-Lowe raised the bar yet again today with the release of his album Take the Space Trane which features a live recording of MdCL with the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra. Is there anything MdCL can’t do? The recording is available worldwide today and it packs a punch like you’ve never heard before in any conventional big band.
While each musician brought their own sound to the table, the group as a whole gelled extremely well. Nia Andrews gracefully commanded the melodies of the tracks, and Robinson’s verses were on point. Jaleel Shaw was an absolute freak of nature, ripping over the changes while de Clive-Lowe added filters, delays, and other assorted effects with his samplers. Kelley and Smith locked like a glove, providing a strong backbone to the overlying ethereal layers of synths, percussion, and samples.
We’re about to welcome in 2013 and subsequently there is a lot to be excited about. Concerts, albums, artists, artwork, and more are coming in the new year. Check out just a few of the things you should be excited about in 2013!
