Meshell Ndegeocello‘s 12th studio album rounds out the Best Contemporary Album category alongside Chris Dave. More than just an album of covers, the Ndegeocello takes musical auteurism to the next level with her thoughtful re-interpretation of classic ’80s and ’90s hits. Aptly titled Ventriloquism, the bassist/vocalist/producer gives chart-topping songs like TLC’s “Waterfalls,” and Al B. Sure’s “Nite and Day” a re-examine and explores different textures to music that seemed to have been boxed in by cliches of its time.
